Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to travel to India for three weeks. Between discussing environmental issues, drinking lots of tea, and enjoying a love affair with idly, I was introduced to the world of natural dyes. Making (and dyeing) my own clothes has been something I've always wanted to do, but like most people, I threw that idea in the 'I-never-have-time-but-maybe-one-day' box.
Well, seeing as most of us are staying home to do our part in managing this pandemic, now is the perfect time to create a piece you'll love! Today, we're sharing our favourite natural dyes to create the colour of your dreams.
For mustard yellows and sunshine hues...
Turmeric
Onion Skins
Be pretty in pink (or red) with...
Avocado Pits & Skins
Beetroot
Red cabbage - just add something acidic like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar (without the acid you'll get a lovely shade of purple!)
For something green or blue...
Spinach
Red cabbage - just add something alkaline like bicarb soda
